Réne Lecuona, professor of piano in the University of Iowa School of Music, will perform with cellist Hannah Holman, formerly of the Maia Quartet and now with the New York City Ballet Orchestra and the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 24, in the Old Capitol Senate Chamber.

Nicole Esposito, professor of flute in the University of Iowa School of Music, will present a CD release concert with the award-winning Alturas Duo (Carlos Boltes, viola/charango, and Scott Hill, guitar) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, in Riverside Recital Hall on the UI campus.

Wells Tower, writer of short stories and nonfiction, will present a free reading at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 28, in the Frank Conroy Reading Room of the Glenn Schaeffer Library, adjacent to the Dey House. Tower is the recipient of two Pushcart Prizes, the 2002 Plimpton (Discovery) Prize from the "Paris Review," and a Henfield Foundation Award.

John Doershuk and Mark Anderson will present a free, public talk, “Where is that Confounded Site? Historic Background and the Recent Search for the Rummells-Maske Clovis Cache, 13CD15,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 28, in the Biosphere Discovery Hub of the UI Museum of Natural History.

Innovative program includes music by recognized masters of classical music, as well as by contemporary musicians like Radiohead and Arcade Fire.

As part of Iowa City’s first carnaval celebration this summer, the University of Iowa Museum of Art will present two spring-time talks by carnaval designers. The first, by architect and interior designer Jaime Cezário, will be offered in the Old Capitol Museum Senate Chamber on Monday, March 25.

Hancher and Working Group Theatre have developed a rich collaboration. Now, an important grant from the Association of Performing Arts Presenters is helping strengthen those efforts.

"Puddin’," written and developed by Bethany Jackson, and "Spot’s Community," written and directed by Taylor Cook, will be presented together on March 27 and 29. Jacob Schiller and Emilia Hodges will collaborate on "Lungs," by British playwright Duncan Macmillan; it will be presented March 28 and 30. All shows are free and open to the public.

Mary Szybist, alumna and former teaching-writing fellow at the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop, will read from her new book of poetry, "Incarnadine," at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, in a free reading at Prairie Lights Books in downtown Iowa City. The reading also will be streamed live on the University of Iowa Writing University website.

Dafna Lemish, a leading scholar on children and the media, will present a lecture Friday, March 15, at 3 p.m. titled, “Communicating with Children: Principles and Practices to Nurture, Inspire, Excite, Educate, and Heal.” The talk is free and open to the public.

Doctors have advised the legendary saxophonist to take a break from performing.

Iowa Writers’ Workshop alumna Michelle Herman will read from her new book, "Stories We Tell Ourselves," at 7 p.m. Monday, March 25, in a free reading at Prairie Lights Books in downtown Iowa City. The reading also will be streamed live on the University of Iowa Writing University website.
