A leading scholar on children and media will speak at the University of Iowa College of Education at 3 p.m. Friday, March 15, in Room 300 Lindquist Center North.

Dafna Lemish, a professor of communication and interim dean of the College of Mass Communications and Media Arts at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, will present a talk titled, “Communicating with Children: Principles and Practices to Nurture, Inspire, Excite, Educate, and Heal.” The talk is free and open to the public.

Lemish will share a resource package produced for UNICEF, which is committed to advancing the use of communication with children around the world which are age appropriate, culturally sensitive, and inclusive, in the spirit of the UN Convention for the Rights of the Child.

Lemish is founding editor of the Journal of Children and Media. She has published over 130 academic articles and book chapters, and is the author and editor of numerous books on children, media and gender representations. She is a Fellow of the International Communication Association (ICA), the first recipient of the Teresa Award for the Advancement of Feminist Scholarship of ICA, and the inaugural recipient of the Senior Researcher Award of Children, Adolescents and Media Division of the association.
