UI announces final candidate for vice president for research

A university search committee has announced Craig K. Svensson, dean emeritus and professor of medicinal chemistry and molecular pharmacology at the Purdue University College of Pharmacy, is a finalist for vice president for research at the UI. Scholtz will meet with campus at an open forum on Feb. 21.

UI to maintain Labor Center

The University of Iowa is requesting the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, vote to reconsider the closure of the Labor Center at the board’s next meeting on Feb. 28. The request comes after the Labor Center presented a plan to become self-sufficient in four years.

UI physicist part of study into solar wind

University of Iowa physicist Gregory Howes is quoted for his involvement in a study that describes the first direct measurement of how energy is transferred from the chaotic electromagnetic fields in space to the particles that make up the solar wind, leading to the heating of interplanetary space.

UI physics student William Fuelberth's research poster has earned a medal at the recent American Astronomical Society meeting in Seattle. the poster by Fuelberth, an undergraduate, was chosen from 214 undergraduate submissions.

The Daily Iowan won first-place awards in 13 categories at the annual Iowa Newspaper Association Awards in Des Moines. The student-run newspaper finished second overall in General Excellence among daily newspapers with a circulation under 10,000. The awards were announced Feb. 8 during the INA annual banquet.

Watts receives Mabel Strong Outstanding Advisor of the Year Award

Jessica Watts, a coordinator for leadership in University Housing and Dining, received the Mabel Strong Outstanding Advisor of the Year from the Midwest Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls. The award recognizes advisors who show an excellent level of service and dedication to their campus and the MACURH Region.
