Ernst—a clinical professor in the UI College of Pharmacy Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science—co-authored October research papers that were based on the Aspirin in Reducing Events in the Elderly (ASPREE) trial. The study concluded that low-dose aspirin may do more harm than good in healthy older adults.
UI students head to "rocket school"

Two University of Iowa students are attending a week-long school to learn how to design, build, launch, and recover a rocket. The UI students are the only American students taking part in the prestigious program, which takes place Jan. 21-25 in Norway. It's funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation.

Assistant Professor of Psychiatry Krystal Parker received a five-year, $2.1 million grant from the National Institute of Mental Health to continue exploring the idea that the cerebellum may play a key role in cognitive function and may be targeted in diseases such as schizophrenia, autism, bipolar disorder, and Parkinson’s disease.

UI physicists win NASA funding to build space instrument

University of Iowa physicists have won funding from NASA to design, build, and test a compact instrument that can measure a wider spectrum of magnetic fields in space. NASA is funding the project, called CHIMERA, at $1,030,000 for three years.
