Fort in Iowa designated as national historic place

Fort Atkinson, a former fort built to serve as a buffer between warring Native American tribes in northeast Iowa, has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The listing resulted from a petition by the Office of the State Archaeologist at the University of Iowa.
