A project that replaced an existing gas boiler with a new biomass boiler in the Oakdale Renewable Energy Plant, located on the University of Iowa Research Park campus, has won the Grand Place Award (first place in category) in the Energy Production Category of the 2013 Engineering Excellence Awards competition.

Horn Studio students to perform recital May 7

The University of Iowa School of Music will present a free recital by Horn Studio students, led by UI faculty member Jeffrey Agrell, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, in the University Capitol Centre Recital Hall in downtown Iowa City. This concert will feature each member of the studio playing one work; several pieces were composed by the students.

University of Iowa Department of Public Safety will extend Nite Ride service hours during finals week. Nite Ride will operate on a 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. schedule, starting at 10 p.m. Sunday, May 12 and ending at 6 a.m. Friday, May 17.

A UI undergraduate student and his UI colleagues have discovered one way in which the bubble of electrically charged particles around Saturn, also known as Saturn's magnetosphere, changes with the planet's seasons. The finding could change how we view the Earth's magnetosphere. Results appear in the Journal of Geophysical Research.

A University of Iowa study shows that older people can put off the aging of their minds by playing a simple game that primes their processing speed skills. The research showed participants' cognitive skills improved in a range of functions, from improving peripheral vision to problem solving. Results published in the journal "PLOS One."
