Hancher to present Brazilian big band SpokFrevo Orquestra Oct. 30

The University of Iowa’s Hancher will present SpokFrevo Orquestra on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 7:30 p.m. at the Englert Theatre. The musical group takes frevo, traditionally a vibrant Brazilian street music with deep ties to Carnival, to center stage, honoring and reinventing tradition.

Obermann Center leading UI participation in Global Midwest humanities consortium

A new initiative to aid interdisciplinary researchers in the humanities has yielded Humanities Without Walls, a consortium of 15 universities throughout the Midwest. The University of Iowa will participate in the initiative through the Obermann Center for Advanced Studies. UI faculty are encouraged to submit an application.
