The University of Iowa Center for New Music will present Composers Workshop, a free concert featuring the work of composition students in the UI School of Music, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27, in Riverside Recital Hall on the UI campus.

University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop graduate Alexandria Peary will read from her third book of poetry, "Control Bird Alt Delete," at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, in Prairie Lights Books in downtown Iowa City. The reading also will be streamed live on the University of Iowa Writing University website.

Former Congressman Jim Leach shared little-known anecdotes about three Iowans — James Van Allen, Harry Hopkins, and George Leslie Stout— whose work during World War II helped shape the future of the United States as well as the world.

The University of Iowa School of Art and Art History invites students, faculty, staff, and community members to register for its 25th annual Foil Workshop in Printmaking, a technique first developed in 1992 by UI professor Virginia A. Myers. The workshop will be held in June on the UI campus.

University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop graduate T. Geronimo Johnson and Writers’ Workshop alumnus/faculty member James Galvin will present a free reading at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 1, in the Frank Conroy Reading Room of the Glenn Schaeffer Library, adjacent to the Dey House.

The University of Iowa School of Music will present a free performance by the All-University String Orchestra and the UI Chamber Orchestra at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 27, in Riverside Recital Hall on the UI campus.

The University of Iowa’s Hancher will present the world premiere of "Out of Bounds," a new play written by UI alumna Jennifer Fawcett and Working Group Theatre, Thursday through Saturday, May 1-3, at Riverside Theatre.

The University of Iowa School of Music presents the Bach Festival, which runs through Saturday, April 26, on the UI campus. The festival features numerous events that are free and open to the public, concluding with a "Bach-a-thon" on the 26th.

Learn how climate change is affecting Iowa, as well as activities for children, at the Iowa Climate Festival Saturday, April 26, at the Museum of Natural History in Iowa City. The festival is part of a slew of activities on the University of Iowa campus to commemorate Earth Month.

The UI Department of Political Science will sponsor a public forum Thursday, April 24, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Old Brick Auditorium, 26 E. Market St. The forum, “Congress Divided, Really?!” will feature a panel of former U.S. representatives, political consultants, and campaign strategists.

Women from across Eastern Iowa met Friday in the old senate chambers in the Old Capitol building at the UI, a place where many men once served, to examine why women do and do not run for public office.

The UI Center for Teaching and ITS-Instructional Services are sponsoring a Faculty Institute, "Releasing Your Inner Performer: Strategies for Memorable Classroom Delivery" on May 19-20. The institute will provide an opportunity to learn, practice, and perhaps perfect a variety of classroom presentation skills.
