When Scott Beckner took the reins as the UI public safety director, he identified connecting with the student body as one of his priorities. One of the means to that end was building relationships with students by forming teams of officers to take on students in intramural sports.

The UI Department of Public Safety is expanding its student security officer program as part of a growing effort to build a community policing culture on campus. Meet Beth MacKenzie, the UI’s new recycling coordinator. Based in the Office of Sustainability, MacKenzie’s goal is to help the UI meet its 2020 target of diverting 60 percent of on-campus waste away from the landfill. She also leads Recyclemania 2017, an all-campus recycling initiative that begins on Feb. 5.

The Cubs Trophy Tour, presented by State Farm, is coming to the University of Iowa, giving fans the opportunity to see and take photos with the 2016 World Series Trophy. The trophy will be at the Iowa Memorial Union’s Second Floor Ballroom from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30.
