Jacob Isbell, a member of the University of Iowa Honors Program and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has been named a 2017 Goldwater Scholar. The Goldwater Foundation also recognized UI junior Lance Heady with an honorable mention.

A bicycle named ArrowHED, designed and built by UI art professor Steve McGuire, won Best Mountain Bike, Singletrack Choice Award, at Bespoked 2017, an international show for bicycle frame-builders held in Bristol, UK.
UI honors top student employee

Rachel Bruflodt was named UI’s 2016–17 student employee of the year. The Dubuque, Iowa, native and seven other student employees, as well as nine student employee supervisors, was honored April 13 at a reception at the home of UI President J. Bruce Harreld.

UI and its Landscape Services Tree Crew honored with 2016 Tree Campus USA award

The University of Iowa and its Landscape Services Tree Crew were recently honored with the 2016 Tree Campus USA award at the 27th Annual Community Forestry Awards Luncheon in Des Moines. The UI is one of only five Tree Campus USA award winners in Iowa. This is the eighth year in a row that the UI tree crew has received this honor.
Old Gold: US and SUI enter World War I

When World War I broke out a century ago, the State University of Iowa became a training ground for soldiers and officers. Many members of the SUI community left to join the fight overseas, 83 of them eventually dying as a result of the conflict.

Buckley Distinguished Achievement Award for Staff and May Brodbeck Distinguished Achievement Award for Faculty were awarded to three exceptional women at the University of Iowa’s annual Celebration of Excellence and Achievement Among Women on April 5. Nine UI students were also honored at the event.
UI embraces use of big data for student success

At the University of Iowa, Sam Van Horne, assessment director in the university’s Office of Teaching, Learning, and Technology, and his staff members run a big-data project that provides students and instructors in certain courses with continually updated dashboards of information, including a forecast of the student's final grade.

Thanks to a OneIT subproject, many UI students’ and employees’ Iowa One Card door access is now automatically updated based on information from MAUI and human resources or housing databases. The new system saves staff members’ time and increases security.

UI Libraries announces May 12 deadline for requesting books from Main Library storage

Beginning this summer, University of Iowa Libraries will be moving 425,000 volumes from the Main Library’s basement storage to the new off-site Libraries Annex. Place an InfoHawk+ delivery request by May 12 for any storage collection material that you will need between May 2017 and May 2018.
