University of Iowa celebrates opening of Elizabeth Catlett Residence Hall

Hundreds of people gathered to celebrate the dedication of the Elizabeth Catlett Residence Hall, the University of Iowa’s newest and largest residence hall. Named for renowned sculptor and printmaker Elizabeth Catlett, the 303,000-square-foot building offers an impressive view of the Iowa River on the east side of campus.

Swanson shares not only his but the University of Iowa’s connection to the town, including a permanent mural in Hancher that Spencer middle school students worked on.

UI completes RFQL for external review of employment policies, practices

The University of Iowa will begin accepting proposals from firms interested in reviewing employment policies and practices as defined by the Iowa Civil Rights Act, as well as internal university policies. The deadline for proposals is Aug. 17.

Lena Hill named interim chief diversity officer, Monique DiCarlo named new Title IX coordinator

Lena Hill has been appointed interim chief diversity officer and associate vice president and Monique DiCarlo has been appointed Title IX coordinator by UI President J. Bruce Harreld. A search for a new chief diversity officer will begin in late fall or early spring.

Young African Leaders Initiative fellows visit Iowa City, tour the state

Twenty-five Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) fellows arrived in Iowa City June 16 to learn about the American economy and the basics of operating their own business. During their six-week stay, the fellows have been traveling across the state visiting farms, religious institutions, art galleries, and large businesses.

UI makes progress on revising, streamlining intellectual property policies

The university recently completed the first part of an intellectual property policy revision process. The policy ensures that inventions by faculty and staff are clearly identified, adequately protected, and leveraged in a way that benefits the inventor, the university, and the public.
