University of Iowa celebrates opening of Elizabeth Catlett Residence Hall

Hundreds of people gathered to celebrate the dedication of the Elizabeth Catlett Residence Hall, the University of Iowa’s newest and largest residence hall. Named for renowned sculptor and printmaker Elizabeth Catlett, the 303,000-square-foot building offers an impressive view of the Iowa River on the east side of campus.

The University of Iowa will host a dedication ceremony for the new Elizabeth Catlett Residence Hall. The 12-story residence hall is the university’s largest, housing 1,049 students when it opens this fall, and commands an impressive view of the Iowa River.

Executive Director of Hancher Auditorium Chuck Swanson hails from Spencer, Iowa, the first overnight stop on the 2017 RAGBRAI route. Swanson shares not only his but the University of Iowa’s connection to the town, including a permanent mural in Hancher that Spencer middle school students worked on.
