UI graduates celebrated a series of commencements May 11–14. From the Carver College of Medicine to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Hawkeyes cheered and shed some tears at the closing of an important chapter in their lives. Read a recap and check out some photos of the festivities.

The Innovations in Teaching with Technology Awards (ITTA) fund significant, innovative projects that have the potential to improve teaching and learning throughout the University of Iowa. This year, five UI instructors received awards in support of their innovative approaches.

The National Council on Teacher Quality has ranked the University of Iowa’s College of Education as a top-tier undergraduate program in secondary education, one of just 16 programs nationwide to earn the distinction.

For the third year in a row, “Forbes Magazine” has included University of Iowa Health Care in its annual listing of the nation’s top employers. In the 2017 “Forbes” rankings of “America’s Best Employers,” UI Health Care was named the No. 5 employer in the health care industry and No. 14 overall.

Alumni from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop won an exceptional number of national literary awards in this year’s awards season. The novels of three alumni in particular—Adam Haslett, Garth Greenwell, and Yaa Gyasi—received numerous honors. Workshop director Lan Samantha Chang says alumni were heavily represented in all categories of literary award.

University of Iowa President J. Bruce Harreld congratulates graduating Hawkeyes on a job well done and looks forward to their future accomplishments.

A team of Iowa MBA full-time students finished in fourth place among 15 teams in a business analytics case competition sponsored by the Tippie College of Business.

Sixteen University of Iowa students and alumni have been awarded Fulbright U.S. Student Program grants to conduct research, attend graduate school, undertake creative projects, or serve as English teaching assistants abroad in 2017–18, breaking the UI’s previous record of 15 set last year.

Fred Wollinsky, the John W. Colloton Chair in Health Management and Policy at the University of Iowa College of Public Health will receive an honorary doctorate from Friends University in recognition of his continued academic work and contributions to his field of study.

The University of Iowa Celebrating Excellence: Discovery and Innovation Awards Ceremony, held April 24, honored faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows, undergraduates and graduate students, and mentors who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in their fields.
