A bio patch that can regrow bone

Researchers at the University of Iowa have created an implantable bio patch that regrows bone in a living body, using existing cells. The team created a scaffold seeded with plasmids containing the genetic information for producing bone. The plasmids are absorbed by bone cells already in the body, spurring new growth. The University of Iowa is flipping the traditionally somber tone of Veterans Day on its head and returning to its original upbeat, celebratory feel with a Hawaiian celebration. Veteran Vitality 2013 will be Monday, Nov. 11, and includes a 6,000-flag display, a kickoff celebration, a series of panels, and a luau.
