When Drake Fricke was just one day old, doctors in Marshalltown found a blockage in his colon and sent him to a Des Moines hospital where it was suggested he may have Hirschsprung’s disease, a condition that affects the colon and can make newborns unable to have a bowel movement.

More than 20 UI faculty representing diverse disciplines and backgrounds were selected to participate in a two-day “Write to Change the World” workshop Nov. 7 and 8 through The Op Ed Project. This is the first time the workshop has been offered on the UI campus.
