Karen Villeda, a poet from Mexico who published her first book as a teenager, is this year's Outreach Fellow for UI's International Writing Program. She has earned several awards, including the 2014 National Fine Arts Prize for Children’s Fiction and the 2013 Elías Nandino National Award for Youth Poetry.

A new study documents that trees play a minor role in offsetting carbon emissions in urban areas. Researchers examined carbon emissions and trees' carbon storage in the Twin Cities (Minnesota) and found hotspots where more trees could yield benefits.
