The new undergraduate degree in creative writing offered by the University of Iowa Department of English further cements Iowa's distinction as “The Writing University,” a destination for writers from all over the world.

The Annex at the Seamans Center for the Engineering Arts and Sciences offers additional classroom and research space, including a fluids workshop with high-tech wind tunnel, water channel, towing tank, and channel flume. The Annex also houses the college’s expanded Student Development Center, which offers academic and career counseling.

Luther Smith’s achievements were many. A Tuskegee Airmen pilot, he was a decorated World War II hero. He experienced discrimination throughout his life, especially after the war when he worked as an aerospace engineer, a time when few black men or women held such positions. He was also a Hawkeye.
