The University of Iowa plans to remodel and expand the Iowa Advanced Technology Laboratories—one of its most unique buildings—to create a permanent home for one of its fast-growing programs of study.

A proposed renovation to the home of the University of Iowa baseball team is being considered for final approval by the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, at its November meeting. Duane Banks Field opened on Stadium Drive in 1974 and sits between landmarks Kinnick Stadium and Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

University of Iowa faculty, staff, and students have been named to the search committee for a new dean of the College of Pharmacy.

When John Riehl found out he would undergo a combined kidney and pancreas transplant last year, there was a lot to worry about: how the procedure would go, how his family was handling the stress, and missing out on family events. One thing he says he didn’t worry about was how much it was going to cost.

Thirty-seven University of Iowa faculty and staff members will be honored at the UI’s 2023 Faculty and Staff Awards Celebration on Oct. 26 for achievements ranging from excellence in service and teaching to leadership in outreach and student recruitment.

Faculty, staff, and students are invited to a groundbreaking ceremony for a new, state-of-the-art building that will house three of the University of Iowa’s most popular and top-ranked programs. The ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31.

Data from the first year of the Hawkeye Work Grant program shows that the 106 students who participated in the program had an average GPA of 3.08 in spring 2023 and 92.5% retention rate in fall 2023. In comparison, 1,319 first-year students who did not participate had an average GPA of 3.05 in spring 2023 and 85.1% retention rate in fall 2023.

Donald E. Letendre, dean of the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, will step down as dean in summer of 2024 after serving for 17 years. Letendre will continue to lead the college until his successor is hired and plans to remain on faculty as a professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science to pursue scholarly work.
