Smithsonian Visionary Award honors UI artist Chunghi Choo

The Smithsonian Visionary Award will be presented to two outstanding metal artists, including Chunghi Choo, University of Iowa F. Wendell Miller Distinguished Professor of Art and an elected fellow of the American Craft Council. Choo is being recognized as a metalsmith who creates aesthetically and technically unique metal artworks using electroforming to produce fluid, organic shapes.

UI biologists have uncovered a shared genetic factor among disease-causing fungi, including one species that has been associated with hospital outbreaks in the US. Researchers found that one gene family has multiplied independently and evolved quickly in the fungal species that can cause disease.
