Holiday Tubas

Holiday tubas to ring in the season Dec. 13

Santa will be bringing the sounds of the season to the University of Iowa with the help of Collegium Tubum. The group will hold its annual Holiday Tubas concert on the steps of the Old Capitol Museum from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13. Toys for Tots will be collecting new, unwrapped toys.

Christiansen and Powell to read Dec. 11

Iowa Writers’ Workshop alumni Kate Christiansen and D.A. Powell will give a free reading at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, in the Frank Conroy Reading Room of the Glenn Schaeffer Library, adjacent to the Dey House on the University of Iowa campus.

UIMA seeks artists to create wearable art

The University of Iowa Museum of Art is seeking 12 artists to create wearable works of art inspired by Pollock’s Mural. Works will be featured in a fashion show at the Museum Party and then displayed for two weeks in downtown Iowa City.

Latin Jazz Festival features two free performances

The University of Iowa School of Music Department of Jazz will present the 2013 Latin Jazz Festival, which features a major concert on Thursday, Dec. 12, and a daylong educational event for area high school musicians on Friday, Dec. 13.
