A device that helps surgeons to remove sutures more efficiently during eye surgery was one of five presentations given March 25 by students in the University of Iowa College of Engineering Biomedical Engineering Senior Design program.

Friday was Match Day—the day when more medical school graduates around the world learned where they would be doing their residencies. The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine has 154 medical students graduating this year.

The first meeting of the University of Iowa Presidential Search and Screen Committee has been set for Wednesday, March 25. The 21-member committee will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Kelch Conference Room, 1289 of the Carver Biomedical Research Building (CBRB) on the UI campus.

The NCAA and the University of Iowa are hosting the 2015 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships at the UI Campus Recreation and Wellness Center (CRWC) March 23 through 28. The CRWC will be closed starting Monday, March 23, at 8 a.m. and will re-open Sunday, March 29 at 7 a.m.

The Iowa Institute of Human Genetics will present an information session, Personalized Genomic Medicine: Careers in Bioinformatics and Big Data, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 9. The event shows undergraduate and graduate students the numerous career opportunities being created by personalized genomic medicine in bioinformatics and the management of big data.

University of Iowa cancer researchers and physicians will discuss the findings of the "Cancer in Iowa: 2015" report at a news briefing at 10 a.m. Friday, March 13. A patient affected by melanoma will also be available to talk to media.

How can we better deliver health care options to rural Iowa? That topic will be the focus of the upcoming Hawkeye Lunch and Learn event, as Patrick Brophy presents “Telemedicine in Iowa: Improving Health Care Delivery.” The event will be held at noon Thursday, March 19, in the John and Mary Pappajohn Education Center, 1200 Grand Ave, Des Moines.

All University of Iowa students, staff, and faculty are invited to become Eco Hawks, change agents for sustainability on campus and beyond.
