Johnny Appleseed isn’t just a symbolic folk hero. He was a real pioneer apple farmer named John Chapman whose dream was to produce so many apples no one would ever go hungry. The UI has its own folk hero. His name is Andy Dahl, and he is an arborist.

The University of Iowa School of Art and Art History will host “Advancing the Iowa Idea: A Program Celebrating the Beginning of Construction,” from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, in 240 Art Building West on the UI campus. The program will recognize individuals who have contributed to the design and planning for the new Visual Arts Building.

Crane operators first struck the north face of old Hancher shortly after 9 a.m., and they continued to strike various parts of the roof during the morning, marking the first exterior impact after months of inside demolition.
