North Liberty telescope peers into deep space

North Liberty is home to one of 10 radio telescopes in the Very Long Baseline Array, or VLBA, spread across 5,351 miles from Hawaii to the Virgin Islands, which, when used together, are 100 times more powerful than any other dedicated instrument, says UI astrophysicist Robert Mutel.

Phuong Nguyen-Hoang, assistant professor in the School of Urban and Regional Planning, examined the impact of school district income tax on property tax revenue in the State of Ohio. The data show that increases in school district income tax are not associated with proportionate decreases in property taxes.

Juno slingshots past Earth on its way to Jupiter

NASA's Juno spacecraft will pass within 350 miles of Earth's surface Oct. 9 before it slingshots off into space on a historic exploration of Jupiter. Bill Kurth has been involved with the mission since the beginning and is one of the lead investigators on the Waves instrument aboard the craft.
