University of Iowa's Conservation Lab celebrates 30 years of saving books

With tools like an ultrasonic welder and a book freeze dryer, the University of Iowa Conservation Lab helped Iowa museums and libraries recover from 2008 flooding. Flood restoration work was just one of the latest undertakings for the lab, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
Literary immersion students to read from work May 3, 8

The Nonfiction Writing Program, through a class called "The Art and Craft of Literary Immersion," placed students in local spaces such as the MacBride Raptor Project, Amana Colonies, and the Iowa City Senior Center to inhabit, observe, and write about them. The students will read from their work on May 3 and May 8.

The reading also will be streamed live on the University of Iowa Writing University website.

UI senior Kelsey Zlevor, an environmental sciences major, has made an enormous impact on campus...by leaving behind a tiny footprint. An intern at the Office of Sustainability, she's been responsible for many key sustainability initiatives on campus, including tray-less dining, water-bottle filling stations, and energy conservation.
