The Old Capitol Futures tennis tournament, a U.S. Tennis Association Pro Circuit event, takes place through July 22 at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. The first professional tennis tournament to take place in Iowa since 1986, the event was organized by Sport and Recreation Management program students.

UI extends contract for next step of employment practices review

The UI has signed a contract amendment with a Des Moines law firm to continue the employment practices review that began in November. The amendment directs Fredrikson & Byron, P.A. to assess the UI Department of Intercollegiate Athletics' compliance with employment laws and policies concerning equitable treatment of employees.

First report released from the UI employment practices review

The law firm conducting a review of the University of Iowa’s employment policies and practices has submitted its first report. It includes an analysis of the university’s community policies on human rights, anti-harassment, sexual harassment, anti-retaliation, and violence, as well as policies specific to the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Matheson named chair of Presidential Committee on Athletics

University of Iowa President J. Bruce Harreld has appointed Dan Matheson the new chair of the Presidential Committee on Athletics. Matheson replaces Liz Hollingworth, who served two years as chair and will begin a two-year term as a faculty athletics representative on the committee.

Woman in marching band gets surprise proposal from Army boyfriend

Hawkeye Marching Band member Grace Schebler got a big surprise during the Iowa–Minnesota football game at Kinnick Stadium on Oct. 28. Her longtime boyfriend and former drum major for the band, Isaac Anderson, surprised her with a proposal as the band played “Hey Baby.”
