Sixteen University of Iowa students and alumni have been awarded Fulbright U.S. Student Program grants to conduct research, attend graduate school, undertake creative projects, or serve as English teaching assistants abroad in 2017–18, breaking the UI’s previous record of 15 set last year.

Fred Wollinsky, the John W. Colloton Chair in Health Management and Policy at the University of Iowa College of Public Health will receive an honorary doctorate from Friends University in recognition of his continued academic work and contributions to his field of study.

The University of Iowa will award honorary degrees to personal computer pioneer Ted Waitt and corporate health and wellness innovator Martín-José Sepúlveda during spring 2017 commencement exercises May 12 and 13.

About 4,800 UI students will receive their degrees at spring 2017 commencement ceremonies, which begin May 11 with the College of Pharmacy and end on May 26 with the College of Dentistry. University of Iowa law professor Sarah Seo was recently named the winner of the Law and Society Association’s 2017 Dissertation Prize. Her dissertation, “The Fourth Amendment, Cars, and Freedom in Twentieth Century America,” was nominated by Hendrik Hartog of Princeton University.

HealthTech Solutions, a business founded by two University of Iowa students, both from Iowa, that makes it easier to connect organ donors with recipients, won the grand prize in a start-up venture competition sponsored by TCU.

Don Brathwaite, a graduate student in the department of epidemiology at the University of Iowa College of Public Health, was elected as the National Black Graduate Student Association (NBGSA)’s North Central Regional Representative at the organization’s 29th national conference in Charlotte, North Carolina.
