University of Iowa President Sally Mason shares a letter with the campus community about the importance of talking openly about the serious issue of sexual assault.

Joseph Burken of DeWitt, Iowa, was diagnosed with an astrocytoma, a cancerous tumor in the center of his brain. He also had hydrocephalus—a buildup of fluid inside the skull that leads to brain swelling. Burken will be the Kid Captain Saturday when the Hawkeyes face Ball State in Kinnick.

At age 4, Treytun Garcia of Ottumwa developed what looked like a rash on his left foot. He was soon diagnosed with linear scleroderma, an autoimmune disease characterized by the hardening of the skin and connective tissues. Garcia was chosen as the Kid Captain for the football game this Saturday when the Hawkeyes face the Panthers at Kinnick Stadium.
