Rural and small-town residents are quickly losing access to legal services as aging attorneys retire and close their small practices. The University of Iowa College of Law is working with the Iowa State Bar Association to start a new program that encourages law students to practice in rural areas.

This summer, the University of Iowa will break ground on the first new residence hall to be built on campus since 1968. In addition to housing for 501 students, it will include a multi-purpose room with a performance space, a sports grill operated by University Dining, and tutoring and group study areas.

University of Iowa professors and students took to the roof of Van Allen Hall Tuesday evening, June 5, to set up five telescopes built exclusively for observing the sun for a public viewing of Venus's transit across the sun.
