The University of Iowa offers American Red Cross swim lessons that are taught year-round for all ages. Each class is taught by a certified Water Safety Instructor and includes fun activities and lessons to help the participant learn how to swim and how to be safe in and around the water.

Brands signs deal through 2017

University of Iowa head wrestling coach Tom Brands has signed a five-year contract to continue as head coach of the Hawkeye wrestling program through the 2016-17 season. The Hawkeyes have won three NCAA championships during Brands' first six years at the helm.

University of Iowa researchers have found that police officers who sleep fewer than six hours per night are more susceptible to chronic fatigue and health problems. The findings point to how sleep deprivation, especially among those working the evening and night shifts, may affect public safety and could lead to higher health costs.

The Iowa City Downtown District has invited local artists to brush, glue, and spray a little color on more than 100 benches throughout the downtown pedestrian mall as part of its BenchMarks project.
