liveWELL: Office of the Registrar staff member loses 85 pounds, starts running marathons

In 2013, Registrar Services Coordinator Sara Sullivan chose to take advantage of her University of Iowa benefits and meet with a health coach. Over the next four years, she was able to shed 85 pounds and now runs marathons. She says making that first meeting was key.

UI Libraries announces May 12 deadline for requesting books from Main Library storage

Beginning this summer, University of Iowa Libraries will be moving 425,000 volumes from the Main Library’s basement storage to the new off-site Libraries Annex. Place an InfoHawk+ delivery request by May 12 for any storage collection material that you will need between May 2017 and May 2018.

UI researchers document how melanoma tumors form

University of Iowa researchers have documented for the first time how melanoma cells form tumors. The team reports the process is similar to that of breast cancer cells, and they have successfully screened for two antibodies that stopped tumor formation in both cancers. Results published in the journal “PLOS One.”

High-dose vitamin C proves safe and well-tolerated in brain and lung cancer trials

Evidence is growing that adding high-dose, intravenous vitamin C to standard chemotherapy and radiation treatment may improve outcomes for patients with a wide range of cancers. Baseball-Reference.com, the definitive online guide for baseball statistics, started out as a project that CEO Sean Forman worked on in his spare time while finishing his doctorate in mathematics at the University of Iowa. Tolerated by his non-baseball-fan advisor, the site is now Forman’s fulltime job.
