Thousands of first-year students moved into residence halls across the UI campus on Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 17 and 18. About 3,000 students were expected to arrive each day, with move-ins scheduled in shifts and assisted by volunteers from the UI community.

Bystander intervention training has always been an integral part of the University of Iowa’s On Iowa! program, which provides a comprehensive introduction to campus life for first-year students. But this year, even more students will receive the important training thanks to a deliberate change in scheduling.

UI to expand NITE RIDE service

The UI’s late-night transportation service is now open to people of all genders and powered by a smartphone application. The app will enable users to pinpoint their location within the NITE RIDE boundary map and request a ride to and from any location within those boundaries.

It’s going to be a busy few days in Iowa City as the University of Iowa welcomes thousands of first-year students moving into residence halls. Residence hall move-in will be scheduled in shifts from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17, and Thursday, Aug. 18.
