DeWitt boy to be Kid Captain when Hawkeyes host Ball State

Joseph Burken of DeWitt, Iowa, was diagnosed with an astrocytoma, a cancerous tumor in the center of his brain. He also had hydrocephalus—a buildup of fluid inside the skull that leads to brain swelling. Burken will be the Kid Captain Saturday when the Hawkeyes face Ball State in Kinnick.

Ottumwa boy kicks off Kid Captain 2014 in game against Northern Iowa

At age 4, Treytun Garcia of Ottumwa developed what looked like a rash on his left foot. He was soon diagnosed with linear scleroderma, an autoimmune disease characterized by the hardening of the skin and connective tissues. Garcia was chosen as the Kid Captain for the football game this Saturday when the Hawkeyes face the Panthers at Kinnick Stadium.

University of Iowa Athletics Department announces 26th Hall of Fame Class

The National Iowa Varsity Club and the University of Iowa Athletics Department will induct six individuals into the National Iowa Varsity Club Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, Aug. 29. Though open to the public, the deadline to order tickets is Aug. 22.

Testing of the upgraded audio system at Kinnick Stadium will occur over the next couple of weeks. The new system will improve the sound quality within the stadium seating bowl.

Racing for a Cure

At the 2014 Indianapolis 500, one team raced for more than the checkered flag. "Racing for a Cure" tells the story of 1996 Indy 500 winner Buddy Lazier and his racing team's effort to promote the University of Iowa Wynn Institute for Vision Research.
