University of Iowa Dance Marathon kicks off at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6. It’s the 21st year for the “Big Event,” which provides emotional and financial support for pediatric cancer patients.

University of Iowa researchers have linked smoke from fires to tornado intensity. They examined the effects of smoke—resulting from spring agricultural land-clearing fires in Central America—transported across the Gulf of Mexico and encountering tornado conditions already in process in the US.
