Allen to give trombone recital Feb. 23

The University of Iowa School of Music will present a free recital by faculty member Jonathan Allen at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, in the University Capitol Centre recital hall. Allen will perform on trombone and will be accompanied by School of Music alumnus Daniel Kubus on piano.

The University of Iowa Department of Dance will present a faculty/graduate concert at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 21-23, in Space Place Theater in North Hall. The program will feature world premiere pieces from UI faculty and student choreographers. UI dance students will perform the works.

UI study finds patients in the dark on hip replacement costs

A new study published by University of Iowa researchers discovered that many hospitals are unable to tell patients what the cost of a hip replacement will be, and for those who can, the costs can vary widely.

Forty percent of top-ranked and 36 percent of non-top-ranked hospitals were unable to provide a price estimate for a total hip replacement procedure. Moreover, among the hospitals that could provide an estimate, the cost quoted for the procedure ranged from $11,100 to $125,798—a greater than ten-fold difference.
