The University of Iowa is temporarily suspending its search for a new dean of the College of Law.

A national search was launched in July and the university invited three candidates to campus in early December.

After evaluating campus feedback and consulting with the search committee, university leadership determined none of candidates was the right fit for the position and decided to pause the search.

“We are grateful for the three candidates who visited our campus and engaged with our university,” says Executive Vice President and Provost Kevin Kregel. “While each made a strong case, we felt that we needed to step back and take some additional time to make sure we find the right leader for Iowa Law.”

Kevin Washburn, dean of the College of Law, announced in May that he would conclude his term as dean on Dec. 31.

Todd Pettys, H. Blair and Joan V. White Chair in Civil Litigation, will serve as interim dean of the college until a new dean is in place.

Kregel plans to meet with leaders and other groups within the College of Law in the coming months before resuming the search in the fall. Campus will be notified before the search restarts.
