Executive Vice President and Provost Kevin Kregel has named Todd Pettys interim dean of the University of Iowa College of Law, effective Jan. 1, 2025.
Pettys has served as the H. Blair and Joan V. White Chair in Civil Litigation since 2009. In 1999, he joined the College of Law faculty, where he specializes in constitutional law, federal courts, and the Supreme Court. He will serve as interim dean until a new dean is in place.
“I look forward to working with Todd during this transition period,” Kregel says. “The college will be in excellent hands until the next dean is able to start at Iowa.”
Kevin Washburn, dean of the College of Law, announced in May that he had chosen to conclude his term as dean on Dec. 31.
“I want to thank Kevin again for his exceptional service to the college,” Kregel says.
A search committee, co-chaired by Pettys and Amanda Haertling Thein, associate provost for graduate and professional education and dean of the Graduate College, was announced in July. Pettys will remain co-chair of the committee and will not be a candidate for the deanship.
The committee plans to bring finalists to campus in December.
