Matheson named chair of Presidential Committee on Athletics

University of Iowa President J. Bruce Harreld has appointed Dan Matheson the new chair of the Presidential Committee on Athletics. Matheson replaces Liz Hollingworth, who served two years as chair and will begin a two-year term as a faculty athletics representative on the committee.

Woman in marching band gets surprise proposal from Army boyfriend

Hawkeye Marching Band member Grace Schebler got a big surprise during the Iowa–Minnesota football game at Kinnick Stadium on Oct. 28. Her longtime boyfriend and former drum major for the band, Isaac Anderson, surprised her with a proposal as the band played “Hey Baby.”

Baseball-Reference.com, the definitive online guide for baseball statistics, started out as a project that CEO Sean Forman worked on in his spare time while finishing his doctorate in mathematics at the University of Iowa. Tolerated by his non-baseball-fan advisor, the site is now Forman’s fulltime job.
