UI scholars, publisher play key role in bringing landmark Walt Whitman discovery to light

UI Press publishes newly uncovered Whitman novella
Scholars at the University of Iowa and the staff at the UI Press helped University of Houston graduate student Zachary Turpin share his landmark Walt Whitman discovery, a previously unknown 165-year-old novella called “Life and Adventures of Jack Engle,” with the world. UI Press published the book on Feb. 20.

The University of Iowa journal “Walt Whitman Quarterly Review” (“WWQR”) has published a newly discovered work by Walt Whitman, “Manly Health and Training.” The new, book-length work was discovered by University of Houston Ph.D. candidate Zachary Turpin and appears in its entirety in “WWQR, ” an online-only, open-access publication.
