Physics professor wins quantum computing award

Yannick Meurice, professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, has been awarded a $1.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Science, to study the foundational aspects of quantum computing in theoretical high-energy physics.

University of Iowa researchers are studying megathrust earthquakes, the largest and generally most destructive seismic events on Earth. Funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation and led by Bill Barnhart in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, the researchers will map the megathrust quake that struck Nepal in 2015.
