The University of Iowa search committee for the new dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) has selected four final candidates. The candidates will visit campus over the next two weeks to participate in public forums and meet with faculty, staff, and leadership at CLAS.

The dates, locations, and times of the open forums are as follows:

  • Monday, Oct. 15, 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Voxman Music Building Concert Hall (room 2101)
  • Thursday, Oct. 18, 3:30 to 5 p.m. in room W151 of the Pappajohn Business Building
  • Tuesday, Oct. 23, 3:30 to 5 p.m. in room W151 of the Pappajohn Business Building
  • Thursday, Oct. 25, 3:30 to 5 p.m. in room W151 of the Pappajohn Business Building

The names of each candidate will be announced the day before he or she is scheduled for an open forum. At that time, the candidate’s curriculum vitae will be made available on the CLAS dean search website.

UI Interim Provost Sue Curry named the CLAS dean search committee co-chairs and members in February, and named Professor and CLAS Collegiate Fellow Joseph Kearney interim dean of CLAS in May. Kearney began serving in July when former dean Chaden Djalali’s term ended. Djalali left the UI to become provost of Ohio University. The UI has retained Isaacson, Miller, a national executive search firm, to assist the search.

Curry will make the final selection after the campus visits. Kearney has agreed to serve as interim until June 30, 2019, or until a new dean is selected if the candidate begins their term before that date.
