Ohio University President M. Duane Nellis has appointed Chaden Djalali, professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy and dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Iowa, to be the next executive vice president and provost of their university. Djalali’s last day at the UI will be June 30.

“I would like to thank him for his service and congratulate him on his exciting new role,” says Sue Curry, UI interim executive vice president and provost. “With a history in research, instruction, and administration, we appreciate the dedication Chaden brought to our community. We wish him and his family the best.”

Djalali has served as CLAS dean since 2012 and announced in March of last year that he would be stepping down in summer 2018.

He came to the UI from the University of South Carolina, where he had taught since 1989 and served as chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy since 2004. He maintains an active research program in intermediate energy nuclear physics and hadronic physics. During his tenure as dean, Djalali supported the creation of the UI Instructional Faculty Policy, helped maintain high levels of external grant support for research despite a difficult national climate, and expanded the CLAS Advising Network.

Curry has received input from CLAS leadership and shared governance and plans to name an interim for the position later this month.
