Carver College of Medicine has received a seven-year, $28 million Clinical and Translational Science Award from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, part of the National Institutes of Health. The grant is focused on extending the reach and benefit of clinical and translational research into communities across Iowa by fostering multidisciplinary collaboration across the university and the state.

The National Science Foundation has awarded Assistant Professor Tom Folland a $604,691 grant for a project that will determine how certain classes of crystals can be used to control both direction, and orientation of light waves. These materials can form a key part of creating advanced optical technologies including laser imaging, optical biosensors, and quantum optics.

Farag receives $1M grant to reduce errors in K-12 school medication administration

A team of University of Iowa researchers led by College of Nursing Associate Professor Amany Farag, has been awarded a three-year, $1 million grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to implement and evaluate the usability and effectiveness of an electronic student medication record aimed at reducing medication errors in K-12 schools.
