Hancher brings sounds of Mexico to Iowa with Sones de México

When we think about music from other countries, it can be easy to get caught up in a one-note stereotype. UI’s Hancher will present Sones de México Friday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Englert Theatre, where the folk music ensemble will share the full scope of Mexico’s varied traditions.

In honor of Cesar Chavez week, the Association of Latinos Moving Ahead welcomes award-winning artist Joaquin Zihuatanejo to the UI campus for a celebration of diversity and the power of words. Zihuatanejo will perform Wednesday, April 2, at Shambaugh Auditorium in the Main Library from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Clinton Street closure near new music building

Clinton Street will be closed to through traffic from the intersection at Burlington Street south one block to Court Street, effective April 1 through August 26. Traffic should follow detour signs via S. Dubuque Street to Prentiss Street.

UI student releases injured owl back to the wild

A University of Iowa freshman who found an injured owl on campus last month and arranged for the Macbride Raptor Project to nurse it back to health released the owl Friday near the spot where it was found.
