A vibrant display on the pedestrian bridge near the Iowa Memorial Union is more than an attractive sight on the University of Iowa campus—it is meant to recognize the University of Iowa’s international students and their significant role in the life of the university.

Ronald J. Weigel, MD, PhD, MBA, the E.A. Crowell Jr. Professor and chairman of the Department of Surgery with University of Iowa Health Care, has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine (NAM), effective Oct. 1, 2018.

Sacha E. Kopp, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, is the first finalist for the position of dean of the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He will visit campus Oct. 15 and 16.

The University of Iowa search committee for the new dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) has selected four final candidates. The candidates will visit campus over the next two weeks to participate in public forums and meet with faculty, staff, and leadership at CLAS.

Dentistry professor Hanan Elgendy uses art to help first-year dental students understand tooth structure and form. Bringing art into the dental simulation lab not only sharpens students’ eye for detail but also helps them create better dental restorations and tooth replacements, says Elgendy, who started teaching tooth art in 2017.
