Oculus Rift ATV simulator is more than just a crazy video game — it could actually save lives

"Working with engineers from UI College of Engineering’s Center for Computer-Aided Design, researchers (at the University of Iowa) have created an ambitious virtual reality simulator which mimics the effects of driving an ATV, complete with Oculus Rift headset, motion-sensing suit, and a moving platform that simulates changes in terrain."

Iowa inmates sewing usher uniforms for new Hancher Auditorium

Hancher Auditorium contracted with Iowa Prison Industries to manufacture usher uniforms for use when the new building opens this fall. The uniforms are a statewide collaboration, designed by students from Iowa State University and selected by University of Iowa students, says Executive Director Chuck Swanson.

Jupiter rendezvous

On Independence Day, a NASA spacecraft entered Jupiter's orbit, and the University of Iowa had an instrument along for the ride. The Plasma Waves Instrument, designed and built at the UI, will sample plasma waves and learn how Jupiter's intense auroras are produced.
