It’s another year to remember for the University of Iowa Dance Marathon community. Dance Marathon 24 raised $3,011,015.24 to help fund pediatric cancer research at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
UI lays groundwork for Iowa opioid initiative

The UI Office of Research and Economic Development on April 9–11 will hold an “Ideas Lab,” where it will bring together 30 faculty and staff members from various disciplines to develop strategies for slowing, stopping, or reversing opioid abuse among Iowans. Those interested in participating can apply through Feb. 14.

A virus may have influenced the evolution of multicellular life. University of Iowa Biologist Albert Erives found a virus family that has a similar set of genes as eukaryotes, placing giant viruses in the evolutionary journey of most plants and animals.

The University of Iowa is removing the name of Stephen A. Wynn from the university’s renowned Institute for Vision Research. University leadership determined retaining the name would be damaging to the institution’s reputation following recent allegations of sexual misconduct by Mr. Wynn.
