Students, faculty, and alumni of the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop will perform “unstageable plays of daring and poetry” at the inaugural Iowa City Poets Theater at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, in Lower City Park's Riverside Theater.

The University of Iowa Old Capitol Museum is hosting its next “Wednesday Workshop!” series Wednesday, Sept. 26 from 6-7:30 p.m. Participants will learn how to make a simple Napoléon-era medallion, inspired by the current exhibition, Napoléon and the Art of Propaganda, which is co-sponsored by the UI Museum of Art.

The 2012 series of free Sunday Prairie Lights readings, featuring writers from the International Writing Program and the University of Iowa’s graduate writing program, will continue at 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 30.

Iowa City author Michelle Edwards will read from her new book, "Room for the Baby," at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, in Prairie Lights Book and through a live stream on the University of Iowa’s Virtual Writing University website.

The University of Iowa Center for New Music (CNM) will present a free concert at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 30, in the Riverside Recital Hall, featuring the CNM Ensemble with guest composer Stephen David Beck and guest conductor Bert Van Herck.

The Latino Midwest, the 2012-13 University of Iowa Obermann-International Programs Humanities symposium, will examine the history, education, literature, art, and civil rights struggles of Latinos in the Midwest in light of the demographic changes experienced by states in this region with growing Latino populations.

The University of Iowa School of Social Work will host the Iowa Latino Conference Oct. 12-13 in Iowa City. The conference aims to explore the changing demographics and dynamics of Latino communities in Iowa, and to strengthen the responsiveness of policy makers, business leaders, and community organizations.

The UI Museum of Natural History's "Night at the Museum" program for Friday, Oct. 12 will focus on the night sky, space exploration and astronomy. The program, from 6-9 p.m., is limited to 20 children in grades 1-5. To pre-register, call 319-335-0606.
