Sarah Bond, assistant professor of Classics in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, discusses a project documenting ancient graffiti of Pompei—etchings that provide insight into the importance of the Roman games in the lives of everyday people and indicate the types of gladiators who fought in the arena.

Jupiter rendezvous

On Independence Day, a NASA spacecraft entered Jupiter's orbit, and the University of Iowa had an instrument along for the ride. The Plasma Waves Instrument, designed and built at the UI, will sample plasma waves and learn how Jupiter's intense auroras are produced.

University of Iowa alumna and Grammy-nominated artist Lisa Dondlinger’s musical talent has led her to performances with such superstars as Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, Snoop Dogg, and Stevie Wonder. Now, the former Miss Iowa plans to release her own album this year.
