Lauren Lessing, Mirken Director of Academic and Public Programs at the Colby College Museum of Art in Waterville, Maine, has been named director of the University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art. She will begin July 31.
UI team designs and builds satellite to hunt for universe’s missing matter

A satellite designed and built at the University of Iowa will search the Milky Way for evidence of matter believed missing since the birth of the universe. The HaloSat project, led by physics and astronomy professor Phil Kaaret, is scheduled to launch on May 20.
Joseph Kearney named interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

University of Iowa Interim Provost Sue Curry has named Joseph Kearney interim dean of CLAS. Kearney will begin serving on July 1, when Chaden Djalali’s term ends. Kearney will have the month of June to work with the provost and collegiate leadership to ensure a smooth transition in the college.

Scott Daly, assistant professor in chemistry and an Army veteran, started the Chemistry Platoon after learning UI student veterans weren’t performing as well as their peers. The program has been so successful that Daly has obtained National Science Foundation funding to expand it.

Ohio University President M. Duane Nellis has appointed Chaden Djalali, professor in the UI Department of Physics and Astronomy and dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, to be their university’s next executive vice president and provost. Djalali’s last day at the UI will be June 30.
