UI grad student uncovers security issues at Facebook, Twitter

Last year, a study he co-authored about fake “likes” on Facebook garnered international praise. UI researchers study megathrust earthquakes

University of Iowa researchers are studying megathrust earthquakes, the largest and generally most destructive seismic events on Earth. Funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation and led by Bill Barnhart in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, the researchers will map the megathrust quake that struck Nepal in 2015.

Student-built miniature satellite seeks ‘missing matter’

Undergraduates in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Iowa helped design and build a miniature satellite that was recently launched into space. HaloSat will look for matter believed missing from the universe's birth. The project is led by Philip Kaaret, professor in physics and astronomy.
